Together we rethink the soft seating industry.

  • WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Rethink Softly is a collaboration of designers from different disciplines, academicians, companies and material researchers to rethink the way we make our soft seating furniture.

  • WHY DO WE NEED TO RETHINK?

    1. Traditionally used polyurethane foam is made by reacting di-isocyanates and polyoils. Both of these products are derived from crude oil.

    2. Off-gassing in polyurethane foam products may induce health risks for consumers.

    3. Polyurethane foam is very hard to recycle and to take back into the chain.

  • WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO?

    1. Rethink the way we design our soft seating furniture.

    2. Research on new materials to use in the soft seating industry.

  • "As a designer I am responsible for what I bring into the world.

  • "Never before I was aware that the polyurethane foam is the biggest culprit in my production."

  • "The battle towards sustainability, innovation and independence from fossil fuels is an ambition and challenge for me."

  • "By learning from nature and looking at new technologies, it is possible to work towards a circular economy and to design and produce more sustainable products."
